Here’s how it works:

  • Card Options: Issue physical or virtual cards to employees. Both come with customizable spending controls and real-time reporting for easy management.

  • Unlimited Cards: Need a card for each employee or specific vendors? No problem. You can issue as many as you like and set spending limits, or pause and cancel them instantly when necessary.

  • Receipt Tracking Made Easy: Once a purchase is made, Float sends a quick text reminding the user to upload the receipt. Employees can simply snap a photo and text it back—no more missing or forgotten receipts!

  • Seamless Integration: Float integrates with platforms like Xero, QuickBooks, and NetSuite, so transactions can be exported directly into your accounting system.


And here’s a bonus: Float was founded by a couple of sharp minds from Waterloo’s computer science and business programs. Supporting Canadian talent never felt so good.






Our Experience with Float


Signing up for the Float card couldn’t have been easier. We’ll dive deeper into the setup process in a separate post, but here’s the gist:

  • The account administrator verifies their identity and sets spending rules.

  • Employees fill out a form, provide proof of identity (a driver’s license and a quick facial recognition scan), and set up a PIN.

The entire process was done in 10 minutes, and the card arrived in the mail 10 days later. Even better, signing up for a virtual card gives you immediate access to completing purchases online or remotely. With a physical card, activating it was as simple as logging into the provided website and clicking a button.

Making Purchases with Float


Using Float for purchases is a breeze. It works like any Visa or Mastercard—just tap, and you’re done.


After completing an online purchase, we received a friendly reminder from Float to upload the receipt and categorize the expense. You have the option to either reply with a photo or upload a document directly on Float’s website.


The Float dashboard deserves a shoutout here—it’s clean, intuitive, and efficient. We simply selected the transaction, uploaded the receipt, and added details like general ledger codes, vendor info, and admin-assigned tags. This level of detail makes integrating with accounting software seamless.
